I’d like to start by introducing you to Catherine Deverell. A student of ‘Wild at Heart’ Yoga and Dance.
Through this connection she has been inspired to follow her passion of writing.
Attending the Wise, Wild women’s weekly circle has helped her shift the old beliefs stopping her walking her most authentic path.
The March retreat was transformational to get her out of the limits of the mind and connect to her Wild, Wise hearts bravery.
So honoured to be on this journey with her. Witnessing her blossoming.
This is her first blog 🙌
Thank you Catherine 🙏
The Chakra system.
Have you ever wondered where sayings such as ‘trust your gut’ came from?
Have you ever experienced an emotion strongly in a particular part of your body? Maybe it was a headache after an angry outburst, a stomach-ache after being in a stressful situation, or a lump in your throat when crying. Ancient yogic philosophy explains these sensations throughthe system of chakras.
The chakras are thought of as energy centres in the body. The word Chakra means wheel or circle in Sanskrit. The earliest written record of Chakras is thousands of years old. They belong to a set of beliefs known collectively as Tantra.
Yoga provides a flowchart of the seven Chakras, located along the spinal column. Scientists have discovered that the chakras are located in areas that correspond to the central nervous system and that their connection to specific aspects of health may relate to different nerve plexuses. The chakras also correspond to physical locations along the spine where “molecules of emotion” are most densely populated. These locations are nodal points where information is able to enter the psychosomatic network.
Candice Pert (an American neuroscientistand pharmacologist) discovered that virtually every cell in the body is covered with thousands of tiny structures called receptors. These receptors function as sensing molecules that hover in the membranes of your cells, dancing and vibrating, waiting for ligands (hormones, neurotransmitters, and peptides) vibrating at the same frequency to come past, carried through the fluids surrounding each cell.
When the receptor and ligand ‘meet’ they begin to resonate, creating a ‘conversation’ or music – the attracting vibration creates an emotion that then manifests in the physical world. This process is responsible for emotions such as bliss, hunger, anger, relaxation, or satiety to name a few. Hence why Candice Pert named them ‘molecules of emotion’. It makes sense then, that the chakras are known as energy centres and are each associated with a particular colour and element, which in turn corresponds to a particular musical note. These all work together to help the body with its ‘dance of resonance’.
Yoga postures, vibrational sound healing, and dance all assist to clear and balance the chakras leading to enhanced physical health, emotional stability, improved mental clarity and spiritual growth.
Over the coming weeks we will take you through each chakra in more depth, including ways to unblock them.
In the meantime, why not explore some chakra balancing practices for yourself and join Holly for a Heal with Sound and Restorative Yoga session or a soul flow dance class.
Both are held monthly and you can book under Services.
Here’s is a guided meditation by Holly on Facebook to take you through your chakra system.
Enjoy
